A Virtual Stroll Along the Mickle Trafford-Shotton Railway

The pleasant, semi-rural view from the bridge crossing Blacon Hall Road near its junction with Saughall Road.

Beyond lies the extensive and irreplaceable green open space known as the Blacon Meadows, and Chester city centre may be faintly seen in the distance.

The cottage in the centre of the picture marks the approximate line of the ancient bank of the River Dee. Silting over the centuries eventually resulted in the destruction of the Port of Chester, but also the creation of a vast area of fertile farmland, the Sealands.

This section of the Blacon Meadows, as previously described during the course of our stroll, is currently considered fair game for obliteration under yet more (profitable for some) tin sheds, burger bars and car parks by local politicians and planners in league with commercial developers.
