Here we see the playing field whose borders are the course of the old Mickle Trafford railway, Sussex Road/ Kingsway and Newton Lane. Through it passes a path which links the entrance at the end of Fairfield Road (left) with the start of the Millennium Cycleway via the ramp we saw on the previous page.
Unlike the cycleway itself, which is maintained in fair condition by Sustrans, this field is in the 'care' of the city council and is frequently potholed and rubbish-strewn- hardly the best impression to set for users of this section of the National Cycleway!
To the left of the top picture may be seen the section of the old railway which, to the puzzlement of new users, has been deliberately left derelict to await the coming of the busway. Behind this are the houses of Oaklea Avenue.
