A Virtual Stroll Around the Walls of Chester

The Barley Mow Inn was located at no 2 Oulton Place, Newtown. Reader Peter Wright kindly wrote to tell us, "It was a Walkers Brewery pub, situated at the bottom of the small hill at the Delamere Street end of St. Anne Street. That small hill is still there now, it was on the site of that new old people's home currently under construction adjacent to the inner ring road... so the location of the pub was at the junction of St. Anne Street and Oulton Place (the other end of Oulton Place is still there, that little side-street next to George St. school)". The licencee in 1934-5 was D W Clements.

Bit of a problem here- I have these two images, each labelled as 'The Barley Mow' but the pubs are obviously different. Any ideas? Your reminisciences of The Barley Mow- or any other of Chester's vanished hostelries- are urgently sought and very welcome!
